Bournemouth Hockey Club U14 team had an absolutely amazing day at Lee Valley England Hockey National Finals. The team included 4 Ballard pupils and is the first Bournemouth team to reach the national final. They won their pool without conceding a goal and won a semi final to play for the right to be national champions. It was fantastic achievement to get to the National Finals competing against the top 8 Clubs in the country let alone win silver medals!! They scored 26 goals during the Regionals, Hampshire Cup and their national finals pool matches and only conceded 1!!
Bournemouth HC U14s captained by Josh Samson started the day brightly in Pool A, securing a 1-0 victory over reigning champions Guildford thanks to a Richie Steavenson goal! It was a case of déju vu in Bournemouth’s second match with Steavenson again scoring the only goal of the game as they overcame Lichfield. And they showed they were worthy winners of Pool A in their final game as they struck five past Bowdon, including one by Josh who pushed up and was intrinsic in getting the ball into the D. Sam White was awesome in defence and fast on the wing pushing the ball up toward the D. Nick Nurse solidly distributed the ball in the mid-field, made some feisty tackles on the wing, assisted goals being scoring and injected penalty corners. Meanwhile, Curtis Ormerod-Taylor made some blinding saves in goal!
The final was against Beeston HC who had 8 players from Repton School who recently won the National Schools Champions and therefore had the experience to overcome Bournemouth 3-0 in the final but a fantastic experience for our boys to achieve so much and play on the Olympic pitch!!
Tim Nurse in year 11 also helped coach the the team.
Very Well done to all involved.
